Teams & organizations

Create a team organization, buy seats, invite people, manage roles, and see the usage your team syncs.

A team organization gives every member Codz Pro and the team one page on codz.com with its members and the usage they sync to it. You create it, buy seats, and invite people with a link.

Team is $40 per seat per month, for up to 100 seats. Every account also has a personal organization of its own, Personal, which is where your synced usage goes until you choose a team.

Create an organization

The quickest way is Upgrade to Team on Billing & Invoices, which creates the team and pays for its seats in one step; Billing walks through it. To create a team first and buy seats after:

  1. Sign in at codz.com/dashboard/organizations.
  2. Under Create a team, enter a Name and a Slug. The slug is the team’s address, codz.com/orgs/slug: lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, up to 48 characters, starting and ending with a letter or number. A few slugs are reserved, and each can belong to only one team.
  3. Click Create team.

You become the owner, and the organization’s page opens. Buy seats before you invite anyone: an invitation needs a free seat.

Buy seats

In the Billing section of the organization’s page:

  1. Enter the number of seats and click Purchase seats.
  2. Pay in Stripe Checkout. You can change the quantity there too.

Back on the page, Codz confirms: Team seats are active. Every member now has Pro.

Every active member holds a seat, you included, and each pending invitation reserves one. The Billing section shows how many seats are used, how many pending invitations hold, and when the subscription renews. Billing covers changing seats and the billing portal.

Invite people

Owners and admins invite from the Invites section of the organization’s page:

  1. Enter your teammate’s email address, choose Member or Admin, and click Invite.
  2. Click Copy link and send the link to your teammate. Codz also emails it to that address when it can.

The link is shown only once and expires in 14 days. It works only for the email address you invited. Pending invitations are listed with their expiry date, and Revoke stops a link working.

Your teammate opens the link, signs in with the invited address and clicks Accept invitation. If they are signed in with another address, the page offers Switch account.

If the page says “No seats are available. Purchase more seats first.”, add seats in Billing and invite again.

Roles

An organization has one owner, and any number of admins and members. Invitations make admins or members; ownership only moves by transfer.

To change a role, the owner picks Member or Admin in the member’s row. To hand the organization over, the owner picks Owner (transfer): the other member becomes the owner, and the old owner becomes an admin.

Seats and Pro

Every active member has Codz Pro while the team subscription is active. On the Mac, Settings ▸ Account reads Codz Pro, through your team; on codz.com it reads Pro · via team.

  • Changing seats. Update seats changes the count in place. Adding seats is prorated immediately; removing seats takes effect at the next renewal and isn’t credited. You can’t go below the number of members: remove members first.
  • More members than seats. Existing members keep access, but new invitations are blocked until you add seats.
  • A payment problem. Every member loses the team’s Pro until it is fixed, unless they pay for Pro themselves. Owners and admins see The team subscription needs attention on the organization’s page, with Fix billing.
  • Leaving. A member who leaves or is removed loses the team’s Pro, and if their sync pointed at the organization, it goes back to Personal.

A team seat and a personal Pro subscription are separate: joining a team doesn’t cancel a personal one.

Share usage with the team

The organization’s page shows Usage: the tokens its members have synced to it, the last 14 days, and a total for each member.

A member’s usage reaches the organization only when they point their sync at it:

  • On codz.com: Organizations ▸ Usage sync ▸ Sync my usage to in your dashboard.
  • On the Mac: Settings ▸ Account ▸ Sync usage to.

New syncs land in the organization you choose, and days already stored stay with the organization that received them. Usage a member synced stays with the organization after they leave.

Leave or delete an organization

  • Leave. Any member except the owner can click Leave in their own row of the Members table. The owner transfers ownership first. Whoever pays for a team from their own account, after upgrading to it from Pro, can’t leave or be removed while its subscription bills them.
  • Remove. Owners and admins click Remove in a member’s row. The owner can’t be removed.
  • Delete. Only the owner can delete an organization, from Delete organization at the foot of its page, by typing its slug to confirm. Deleting it cancels any team subscription immediately and deletes the usage stored for the organization. Members whose sync pointed at it go back to Personal.

Questions

Does the owner need a seat?

Yes. The owner is a member, and every active member holds a seat.

Can I invite before buying seats?

No. An invitation reserves a seat, so buy seats first.

Where do I rename the organization?

Owners and admins change the Name and Slug under General on the organization’s page. Changing the slug changes the team’s address.
