Command palette

The command palette is one search box for all of Codz: your chats and what was said in them, the files of the chat you are in, every command in the menu bar, and the settings. Open it, type a few letters, and press ↩.

Open the palette

There are four ways in. Each opens the palette on one of its filters, or switches to that filter if the palette is already open.

⌘K on the All filter closes the palette again. Pressing ⌘P while Files is showing moves down the file list. Esc, or a click outside the palette, closes it. The palette isn’t available while the setup assistant is open.

Filters

The tabs under the search field are All, Chats, Files, Actions and Settings. Click one, or step through them with ⌘[ and ⌘]; the order wraps around. What you have typed stays when you change filters.

The placeholder says what each filter searches:

With an empty search box, All shows a few rows from each section. As you type, sections move so the one with the best match comes first. Matching is forgiving: an exact name or one that starts with what you typed ranks highest, but a name that only contains your text, or has its letters in the same order, is still found.

Chats

With nothing typed, All lists your five most recent chats under Recent Chats. Chats lists 25, grouped under Today, Yesterday, Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days and Older, with a More row that shows the rest.

Each chat row shows a status mark, the chat’s title, its project and how long ago it was active. The mark is a spinner while the chat is working, an archive box for an archived chat, and otherwise a dot coloured for whether the chat needs you, failed, is unread or has been read. A chat running in an isolated worktree has a glyph after its title.

Typing matches a chat’s title, provider, project and branch. From two characters on, All and Chats also search the messages of the chats Codz has saved, and a match found in a message shows the matching line under the title. Opening that chat scrolls to the message.

Archived chats appear only once you type. Opening one takes it out of the archive.

Files

Files searches the project of the chat you are in; if no chat is open, it says “Open a chat to search files in its project”. Before you type, it lists the files open in the Files panel, then the files in the project that changed most recently. All shows five of them under Recent Files.

Choosing a file opens it in the Files panel in the rail. When there is nothing to list, Browse Files (⌘⇧4) opens the Files panel instead.

Actions

Actions are the commands in the menu bar, grouped by the menu they belong to and shown with the menu’s own shortcut. Choosing one runs the menu item, so a shortcut shown in the palette always works. An action is listed only when it can run:

• a menu item that is disabled right now is left out;
• commands for a chat need an open chat;
• Stop Generating needs a running turn, and Approve Action and Deny Action need a pending approval.

The palette adds commands the menu bar can’t hold, because they name something:

With nothing typed, Projects lists the open chat’s project’s commands, then New Chat in each project; type a project’s name to find its other commands. The issue tracker is part of Codz Pro; see Issues.

With nothing typed, Recent Actions lists the last five actions you ran from the palette. Once you type more than two characters, every matching action is ranked in one list.

Settings

Settings finds every page of the Settings window by name, and the individual settings on the General, Appearance, Notifications, Agent & composer, Keyboard shortcuts, Browser & tools, Git & worktrees and Data & refresh pages. The other pages are found by name only. Choosing a result opens Settings on that page, at that setting. All shows up to five settings; the section may spin for a moment while it loads.

Start a new chat from the search

When you have typed something, Suggested offers New chat: followed by your text. It opens a new chat in the current project with your text in the composer, ready to edit and send.

Keys
